Why is my streak broken, and how is it calculated?

Check qualifying fasts, breaks and goal results, then inspect or change the streak rules.

Why a streak can be shorter than expected

The default rules count Days, include fasts that reach their goal, and allow less than 24 hours between qualifying fasts. A fast shorter than its saved goal is skipped. A break of 24 hours or more between qualifying fasts starts a new streak.

Check those fasts' saved times and goal results first. A missing entry can also leave a gap; add it only if you know the original times.

To inspect or customize the rules, open Statistics → Settings → Statistics. The Streak section contains Counting, Ignore fasting goal, and Max break between fasts (h). Custom streak rules require paid settings access, included in Fasty Pro; earlier access can differ. Counting fasts instead of days changes the meaning of the number. The setting screen explains that a three-day fast can count as three days or one fast.

Badges summarize records under these rules. They are not a recommendation to fast longer or to avoid taking a break.

Examples

Daily fasts with an eight-hour break

Suppose each saved fast has a 16-hour goal:

  1. Fast 1 · 16 hours

    Monday 6:00 p.m. → Tuesday 10:00 a.m.

  2. 8-hour break

  3. Fast 2 · 16 hours

    Tuesday 6:00 p.m. → Wednesday 10:00 a.m.

  4. 8-hour break

  5. Fast 3 · 16 hours

    Wednesday 6:00 p.m. → Thursday 10:00 a.m.

All three reach their goals, and each break is eight hours. With the default rules, this is a 3-day streak. With Counting → Fasts, it is a 3-fast streak.

When a break starts a new streak

The last fast in the example above ends on Thursday at 10:00 a.m.:

  • Start the next qualifying fast on Friday at 9:00 a.m.: the break is 23 hours, so it continues the same streak.
  • Start it on Friday at 10:00 a.m.: the break is 24 hours, so it starts a new streak under the default rules.

The break is measured from the previous qualifying fast's end to the next qualifying fast's start, not between their start times.

A fast that does not reach its goal

A 12-hour fast with a saved 16-hour goal does not count under the default rules. The same duration with a saved 12-hour goal does count. Changing your current goal later does not change those saved goals.

A skipped fast does not automatically break the streak. Fasty checks the gap between the qualifying fast before it and the qualifying fast after it. If that gap reaches 24 hours, a new streak starts. With Ignore fasting goal enabled, the shorter fast can count too, and the break limit still applies.

Why days and fasts can give different numbers

Two fasts on Monday, 6:00 a.m.–10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m., each with a saved four-hour goal, form one streak with a two-hour break. Counting → Days shows 1 day; Counting → Fasts shows 2 fasts. Counting days measures the streak's calendar-day span, with a minimum of one day, rather than adding one for every saved fast.

Find the break

Open Statistics → Data (tray icon, top-left corner) → Fasting and inspect the records around the point where you expected the streak to continue. Check for a missing fast, an unreached goal or a break reaching your configured limit.

Add a missing fast or correct an existing record if the recorded times are wrong. A different counting rule can also make the same history produce a different streak number.
